Artist's Comments

For The Far Wild.

My first ever still life, though nothing very interesting. As I put plenty of effort into it over the last few days, thought I would like to share.

Critics are welcomed.

The stone is hard to see and the color of the gold seems washed out. Very interesting nonetheless, it is well painted.

I like how the gem goes and into the darkness so you only see its reflection. The strong lighting is good, I can tell where it comes from - a thing I tend to forget to do when I draw, bah.

Although, if those coins and maybe platform is metallic, I think it'd be shinier and with a sort of stiff lighting on it. At least the coins. Though overall, you have various textures from the gem to sand and so forth that really makes it pop too. : )

Good job, especially if you say 'first ever still life'.

I like this pic, the stone looks very interesting and so real.
maybe there is a little mistake in the perspective at the "foot" of the whole golden thing.
anyway: I like it! :)

Ahh, the perspective is intentional - a slight flavor of vertigo.
